Trek Assessment #3

3. Describe three surprises or unexpected situations you encountered on your Treks and in the days that followed. The surprise could stem from your expectations that conflicted with "on the ground" realities, cultural or social issues of which you were previously unaware, feelings and reactions that you did not expect to have, appearances and soundings of things you did not expect, good or bad outcomes of "on the spot" decisions you had to make, or the discovery of "deeper" realities in the materials you brought home. (Again, skip anything technology-related!)

During Trek 02, while walking down the river under the bridge, I found an interesting drainpipe that made for some unique footage. It was surprising to me because I had been completely oblivious to it on Trek 01, which is unfortunate because the sounds it made available could have been very useful in my project. Also on Trek 02, I was very surprised when looking at all my footage of the cars driving by on Capitol Drive. As seen in my Trek 02 video, I was able to make it seem like the cars were driving from frame to frame, using like color cars to exemplify this characteristic. Since I was not expecting to do I was surprised to see that it turned out much better than expected. Another surprise I found was during Trek 01when I slipped and fell down the slope underneath the bridge. Since I was wearing my headphones, I was able to capture the sounds of my fall in full stereo. This then gave me the idea to record the sound of the rocks sort of avalanche down the slope and it ended up to be quite an interesting sound. Sadly I found no use for it when I was editing my clips.
