Trek 03 Production Strategy

In Trek 03 I plan to film most my material underneath the Capitol Drive bridge by the river along side Humboldt Ave. This are seems promising to me because I can always find something new and interesting that I missed the last time I was there. I hope to find a way to get more into the river whether it be a foot bridge or throwing some large rocks in to make stepping stones. For shooting video I still plan to film from very low and obscure angles however this time I intend it to be moving more. I want to give the viewer the sense of seeing from someone’s feet while they are walking around since I now have the assistance of a steady cam that I can place low to the ground. As far as sound recordings go, I want to record for several minutes at a time of distinct ambient noises without moving the microphones for minimum interference.

Ten Questions

1.) What interesting places can I find further down the river?
2.) Is there any way to film from the middle of the river?
3.) Does the river ever turn into rapids?
4.) Where does the river start/end?
5.) Are there noticeable differences in the two sides of the river that I could contrast?
6.) Where does the sewer drain come from?
7.) Are there any sewers or tunnels large enough to film from inside?
8.) Are there any footbridges crossing the river, lower to the water?
9.) Are there any dams along the river, man-made or not?
10.) Does the river become any narrower to make access across easier?

Trek Assessment #4

4. Describe your favorite experience, situation, place, or recollection from either of your Treks. Be specific about what happened, how you felt, how you reacted, and why you think this particular experience affected you so much.

I think my favorite experience on the Treks was during Trek 02 when I climbed a tree that was hanging about 10 feet over the river. I felt as if I were suspended over the river, which I tried to capture in some of my pictures and video. Although the clips didn’t turn out as good as I hoped, the experience was a lot of fun and really made me think about what kind of obstacles I might have to overcome as an aspiring filmmaker. Sometimes you have to go to great lengths to get just the perfect shot, and you have to do it with what you have available in your surroundings. I think this experience affected me so much because it showed me that even though you can try really hard to get intriguing and hard to reach angles, they may turn out to be not so good and how your least valued material may turn out to be your best, which just shows me how the business works.
